The Instituto I. San Telmo will continue to boost Estremadura's economy. Recently inaugurated in Mérida was a course on management of social economy companies, aimed at management teams of organized agro-alimentary cooperatives.
This course is geared towards managers, executives of cooperatives, sales managers, and in general, focused on members of governing bodies in companies operating in the agri-food sector, along with labor companies’ auxiliary staff in the food chain in Estremadura.
The opening ceremony was attended by the Minister of Economy and Infrastructure of the Extremadura Regional Government, José Luis Navarro; the members of the advisory board of the San Telmo Institute in Extremadura; Luis Felipe de la Morena and Carlos Arce, entrepreneurs from Arram Consultores, as well as the Course's Director, Rafael Alarcón, who presented its characteristics: "This program is born of a concern from within this advisory council, which conveyed the need for greater preparation in agri-food companies, one of the engines of the economy of Extremadura today," he stated.
As Alarcón explained, upon the analysis of decisions, the following issues to address will be the competitive environment of social economy companies in the agri-food chain, control and finance for managers, best business management practices, the strategic handling of the company and the management of human teams, and current competencies related to dimension, innovation and internationalization.
A practical method
The methodology to be used will be based on practical cases with real-life and complex business situations on which several issues come to light. In addition to analyzing these cases, the program is complemented by workshops and testimonials from entrepreneurs.
Among the course's aims is to improve the global knowledge of the food sector and the understanding of the challenges in the current environment in each of its links. For Rafael Alarcón, this course allows for the acquisition of a global conception of the cooperative from the management viewpoint, and to improve the effectiveness of management by relying on the people who collaborate in the relationship between management and its stakeholders.
