What is Fundación San Telmo?

Fundación San Telmo is an independent non-profit organization with the purpose of fostering the economic and business development of Southern Spain and some of its industries and guilds internationally. It was founded by public deed on July 28, 1982.

Considering its objectives, HRH King Emeritus Juan Carlos I of Spain accepted to be the  honorary President of Fundación San Telmo. He chaired the 1st Alumni  Association General Assembly and he officially opened the new San Telmo’s facilities. Their Majesties The King and Queen of Spain attended and opened the 4th Alumni Association General Assembly in 2006. Ten years later, HRH King Felipe VI of Spain also opened the 6th Alumni Association General Assembly and he accepted to be the Honorary President of San Telmo, as his father had done previously, now as new king of Spain.

In September 1982, Fundación San Telmo created a Senior Management Training and Development International Center for Busines and Public and Private Institutions called “San Telmo Business School”, which has received the academic support of several international institutions since its foundation.

Message from Fundación San Telmo’s President

Fundación San Telmo has been and it is now a key institution for the socioeconomic development of Andalusia, Spain and anywhere where we offer development training activities. Thanks to San Telmo Business School, we have trained a huge number of senior managers, businesspeople and politicians from Spain, Europe, Africa and Latin America.

No one doubts nowadays that the future of business is closely related to the managerial skills of its business and political leaders. Being successful when making important decisions and designing and implementing efficient action plans is a must for people at the helm of public and private institutions.

It is necessary to spend time to improve one’s professional and personal skills in a practical and working environment in order to achieve this goal. San Telmo is the breeding ground for initiatives, business, working excellence and respect to people. We have achieved it throughout the years. However, the path has not been easy. It has been possible because many businesspeople, managers and politicians have collaborated selflessly. In particular, the Board of Trustees, the Advisory Boards and the Alumni belonging to our Member Association. We are deeply grateful to all of them. Besides, San Telmo is they.

Board of Trustees

San Telmo’s foundation was due to the promotion, enthusiasm and selflessly collaboration of a group of businesspeople and institutions that make up the Board of Trustees today. Find out who is in:

The Institute

San Telmo Business School is aware of the challenges that the companies and public and private institutions must face in the coming years. Therefore, it decided to propose management training activities, some of them are unique in Europe, which will help senior managers to make progressively fairer and more effective decisions, as well as to manage effectively and with respect towards their collaborators. The main goal of Instituto Internacional San Telmo is to develop the managerial skills of the participants in its Programs.

The Institute became a full member of the European Foundation for Management Development (EFDM) in July 1990, an institution in which the main Business Schools in Europe are represented. It entered the Latin American Council of Management Schools (CLADEA) in October 1992.

San Telmo Business School has its own faculty whose main activities include teaching, research and advisory services to companies and institutions. Visiting lecturers from several Business Schools complement the faculty: IESE in Barcelona, IPADE in Mexico, IAE in Argentina, MIT and Harvard University School in the United States and INSEAD in France.

It is also a center to honor the memory of Javier López de la Puerta, preserve his spirit and spread it to the participants of this initiative. This project was born with the idea of becoming a development training place for people who want to contribute to the boost and fulfillment of his mission.

The spirit of this initiative brings the principles and values together that he experienced and spread in Fundación San Telmo as his founder and promoter.

Seville

The building in which San Telmo’s headquarters is located in Seville is one of the main works of the architect Antonio Gómez Millán, who was born in Seville in 1883. The first project dated back to 1912, but the works began in 1914.

This project was promoted by people who cared for abandoned children in Seville, particularly by the Junta Protectora de Niños Expósitos. Its president, the Countess of Lebrija, handed over the so-called Huerta de san Jorge to the Provincial Council for the construction of the new Provincial Casa Cuna, a children’s hospital. HRH King Alfonso XII of Spain and HRH Queen Victoria Eugenia attended the blessing of the chapel in 1922.

The religious order of Hermanas de la Caridad lived there from 1938 to 1989. On June 10 1990, the Provincial Council handed over the building to Fundación San Telmo in order to establish its headquarters.
